Always a good idea to change to a 90/14 topstitch needle for Fmg.......glides through all layers easier.

I always use a 90/14 Topstitch needle for free motion also. I had so much trouble when I first stated fmq so by trial & error, that's what I found that the 90/14 Topstitch worked the best for me. I don't know though if it is true for all machines but for mine it works. If you don't normally have trouble though then it could be the glue or a dull needle. So many things! lol Love your fmq You do great work

I found that I needed a larger needle to avoid such skips. Lovely work!

As the others have mentioned, sometimes it's only a matter of finding the "right" needle.
A larger needle and one with more punch-ability is needed for FMQing because you are going through so many layers .... quilt top, batting and backing.

Also, I had asked the type of batting as that can make quite a difference too, and could be causing some of the problem.

Try switching over to an Embroidery Needle or Topstitch Needle.
Also a larger size 12 or even a 14 when doing FMQing is best.

Your FMQ is beautiful. My machine was skipping stitches. I took it in for a thorough cleaning and now it is fine.

Beautiful work, Tartan. Did anyone mention there is a needle called a "quilting needle" for sewing machines? The shop I go to recommends them for such work as you're doing.

Your quilting is absolutely gorgeous. Sounds like you've identified the problem so keep on going. Some day maybe I will be able to do such lovely quilting.
