I purchased a kit for a quilted pocketbook and the pattern calls for a cardboard insert for the bottom. I don't really want to use cardboard because then I can not wash it. Any suggestions would be great.

I made some purses that called for cardboard. I made them removeable and in a little pillowcase so that could be washed.

I've used a double layer of the plastic mesh you do cross stitch on with wool (sorry can't remember it's exact name right now)

I think making it removable sounds like a good idea no matter what you decide to use. Even plastic doesn't like to be banged around in a washer and dryer too much.

Plastic canvas makes great bottoms for purses and totes.

You can use needle point mesh, you can sew it in and doesn't clunk around in the dryer.

Maybe, a piece of vinyl. There has to be something around that you can "cut" up--like a vinyl plate or something.......

I made the rumbleford bag and we went to a print shop and got the perferated sign board to put in the bottom, also making a removable pillowcase for easy laundering
