I know this topic has been beat to death, but holy cow do I bow down to those of you that free motion quilt. I just put my darning foot on my machine and tried it on a scrappy quilt (nothing special) that I am making for hubby and my stitches are about a quarter of an inch long!! LOL I think I am going to need lots of practice!!!!

Just took a lesson the other day. Love it. Can't wait to hook my machine to my frame that hubby bought me and practice, practice, practice. Just have fun.

It took forever to feel right with FMQ on my machine. So what do I do when it feels right, I get a frame. Now I'm learning how to do it on the frame. Oh well, I love a challenge.

When I took my first class I left the class early crying because I coudn't do it. Just remember to realx and breath. Fast needle, slow hand. Keep on practicing and you will do it well too.

I'm learning that quick!!! Luckily this quilt I started quilting with my regular foot, and I was doing "organic" lines, meaning not so straight. These lines are perfect practice for FMQ I think as they are relatively straight, so I am learning more about how to get the stitch consistent then about the movement itself. By the end of this quilt I should have my stitches nice and consistent and then i can work on doing the movement in swirls and such. I do have to say my needle down and speed regulator are a huge help on my machine though!!!

You'll get there Rachel! After my first attempts I gave up and was convinced I'd never do any. But I did - just takes practice and practice. I think even experienced fmq-ers have a 10 minute "warm-up" before going on a quilt - I do!

I never could do it on my regular sewing machine, just too many things to think about at one time I guess. But the mid-arm with the stitch regulator is fantastic.
