Just as Mamagrande, I use my walking foot to attach bindings.

I too have a Viking--Designer Diamond Deluxe. I use the 1/4 " foot on the walking foot all the time for piecing and find it very useful for even feeding.

I tried using a walking foot on 2 different Berninas and didn't like the results, or feel, or something wasn't working for me... so I didn't use it with those machines (maybe I was doing it wrong!). I now have a Janome with the built in Accufeed, and like the performance much better, so use it more often.
