Hello, my friend told me I need fork pins for my quilting - I have them but do not understand how to use them. Anybody else use them. They are made by Clover and basically like a double straight pin. My friend is out of town or else I would ask. Thanks. :roll:

You can use them to pin at intersecting seams so you get tight "corners" when you sew over it. You just stick both ends in and come out same as if it was a single pin. they work really well.

I hate to seem dense but I still don't understand - perhaps someone can take pic of how they use them - sometimes I cannot visualize the process but have to see it with my own eyes. Sigh..... :shock:

I like mine. They're great for those intersecting seams. And, because they're looped, I can just remove them with my stilletto as I come to them. A few years back, with garment sewing, I made the mistake of sewing over straight pins and threw my machine out of timing. Now, I pull them out as I come to them but with straight pins I need to stop, pull the pin and continue. With fork pins, I can just slip the stilletto into that loop and pull as my other hand guides the fabric.

I'm not sure if anyone has shown you how to use a fork pin. Try visiting the www.quiltcetera.com website for some tutorial photos. Personally, I use the folk pins the opposite way (so the points of the pins, rather than the "head" is sticking out of the fabric.
BTW, we call fork pins "mortgage pins" in my neck of the woods, the idea being that they are so expensive you need to take out a mortgage to buy them! :) Good luck!
