Default Free Motion Quilting question

Dag nabbit....one of these days I am going to get the hang of this...LOL. I ALWAYS use my "start/stop" button on my Janome 6600. This might be a dumb question but can I/do any of you use the S/S button when you do Free Motion Quilting?

I need all all the help I can get. Thank you! Pat

Here's a thread that was started yesterday on that very topic! I rarely use the start stop button on the one machine that has it, but I like to FMQ on a more basic machine.

I don't do much FMQ because it still intimidates me. But when I practice, I use my foot pedal and make sure that my needle is in the 'down' position when I stop. I think it would be too distracting to have to lift one hand and poke at a button. In fact the only time I've used the start/stop button, was when I forgot my foot pedal at home.

I just can't get used to using the stop button. I like that I can keep both hands on the quilt and just take my foot off the foot pedal to stop.

Thank you so very much! I just can't believe how something you need help with just pops up immediately at the time you are looking for it. That thread was very helpful to me.

I don't think I have that option on my older Bernina. I have sewed too long using the foot petal. You just have to be able to find that perfect speed (by sound) and plan ahead to when to reposition your hands. NEVER do that on a curve because it will show up every time.
