While your stitches appear to be consistent in length, they are too big. You are probably moving the quilt too fast for the speed of the machine. Try to practice by not moving the quilt until the machine is at a comfortable speed and then start moving the quilt to get a good balance between the speed of the machine and the speed of your movement. Since they appear to be consistant now it should be easier to slow down your hand movements to get smaller stitches.

If your machine allows you to unplug the foot control and just use a start stop button. That helps alot. No more of the head patting tummy rubbing thing. You set your speed and then all you have to think about is moving the fabric. Just as another tip, wax the bed of your machine. The slipperyier (is that spelled right?) the better, fabric just moves easier.

I have tried to do it with my machine and my stitches are all different sizes It is hard for me to stay at the same speed. so I save up and let a woman with a long arm do it for me. i'm also poor and it is getting so high, no one wants to pay what it costs to make one.

You don't want to use a regular open toe foot when you FMQ. You need a different foot - a free motion foot, ie. darning foot. They come in round or oval shapes, in metal or plastic. :)
