Thanks for the web site, I was having great confusion of what thread and needle numbers are complementary and have had problems with balled up thread and breakage. I know the thread is good (gutterman) and I change needles frequently as well as lint cleanings and oil. I will keep the guides in my handbag for quick reference.

Carole, I just ordered that part yesterday! I keep having a niggling feeling that my FMQ foot might be causing some trouble even though I watched it very carefully and couldn't see where it might be rubbing the thread. Anyway, maybe that will be the last piece of the puzzle to getting better FMQ.

I will PM you about the do's and dont's list... Thanks.

I have had some thread breading issues and big loooooooooong gaps when I was FMQ.
I've managed to solve things for the time being. The biggest problem was the darning foot that originally came with the machine was literally worn out on the side so that everytime I would turn a corner, the thread would break or I would have a gap. It was replaced with a different free motion quilting foot and darning plate. The original one just "sat" on top of the existing plate. This plate screws in.
I did get a list of do's and don'ts from Janome regarding this machine if you would like a copy, please PM me.

My dealer suggested I swithch from the regular embroidery foot to one with a clear, round, plastic toe. It seems to work better for me.
