Default Full line stencils

I was at a quilt show. Someone was demonstrating full line stencils. Has anyone ever used them? Pros and cons. Any problems with the ultimate pounce not coming out of fabric or leaving a mark? Thanks.

I've only ever used the white powder, and I've really liked it. It really works exactly the way they demonstrate it.

I never liked the mess with the pounce. I always used Clover thin chalk marking wheel. It at least stays on while I quilt and then comes off with no problem. But, NEVER USE the BLUE or YELLOW because IT WILL NOT COME OUT !!

I just use my Frixon pen - so far I've not had any issues.

Not familiar with those stencils so no help there. Personally, I was never very proficient using the pounce. I use a plain old #2 mechanical pencil for light fabrics and the Bohin mechanical pencil with a white lead for dark fabrics. I mark as I go but I hand quilt so that's not much of a problem.

Guessing you were at the Somerset show? How is it this year?

I'm terrible with pounce. Of course if having your entire quilt and table covered with pounce powder is a good thing, well then I'm awesome at using pounce!

Oh - now I have a few of these stencils but I've just never gotten around to buying the pounce. The frixon pen - or better yet just using a disappearing or water soluble pen is a great idea - glad I came upon this thread as I'll have to try it. I have had my stencils a year - bought them last March at the Cleveland Sewing and Quilt Expo but just never used them yet.

I love the Frixon pens! Bought my first one from a quilt shop owner, now I buy online and I got 7 for the price of the one I bought earlier. Before that, I used Fons and Porter mechanical white and/or black "leads" I assume it is chalk. It was good but no match for the FriXon pens.

Thanks for the info. I have the Fons and porter mechanical pen. Will have to try the Frixon.
