I put my top and bottom borders on first by accident, and then put on the sides! This was on the outer border only. I thought I had the sides that I was pinning, but after I had it sewed, I noticed it was the top. I don't think my MIL will notice.....the quilt's for her b-day. Is there a special reason to put borders on in this order? I really don't want to rip!

Are there rules about this? I do it in whatever order I want depending upon the quilt.

I don't think it really matters but then again...I may be wrong. And no she won't notice you did it wrong. :) Shes going to love the quilt no matter what. :)

I wouldn't rip it out.....after all.....there are no quilt police. I had a pattern that stated to put the top and bottonm on first. I don't think it really make a difference.

Who's says it's a sin? There is no reason to do your borders in any order unless your using bias pieces. I'm sure that it looks good. Don't worry about it. No quilt police here!

I say "as long as you get the border on" and it comes out O.K., who cares.

I always put top & bottom on first. Didn't know there was a rule, just personal preference.
