Almost every quilt I make I say this is my funeral quilt. My DD will choose one and use it to drape my casket or memorial podium. I may be cremated, either way is fine with me.

No service for me, but Rob has a casket quilt, and If I were to have one over my urn, it would be the round sunflower quilt I made from a Niemeyer christmas skirt. I think it is 60"

When my DD had a stillbirth, she requested a quilt for the coffin, to actually be covering the casket in the grave. I made two with the baby's initials, so one could be kept as a keepsake. It has hung with the other DGKs portraits over the mantel for many years... It is so cherished.

When my mother died, I was working on a small angel wall hanging that I was going to give her for Christmas. So I finished it quickly and all of us kids wrote something special for her on the back. Then we draped it over her urn when we buried her ashes. The quilt was about 20x30 I think.

When my sister passed away last year I quilted a panel for the back inside of the casket...I kept looking at the choices at the funeral home and kept thinking "I can make a prettier one". The funeral director had no problem with it and sent me the measurements. I quilted her initial and an angel among other things. I like to think of it covering her forever.

We used a quilt over my mother-in-law's casket at her service. The quilt was very special to her and it just felt really right to use it. The quilt was presented to her granddaughter after the service. I think the use of the quilt provided a sense of warmth and comfort to family and friends.

I made a quilt years ago and put a zipper in it and my mom used it for years while she sit in her favorite chair to keep her warm. I ask my dad when she died if he wanted her to be buried in the quilt. The quilt was buried around her when she was buried and made my dad happy that she was warm. My quilt is keeping my mommy warm.

I was asked to make a simple white urn cover with a cross to be used in our church. It would not go to the family it would be reused. I said I need more info and I’ve never heard another word about it, which is ok.

I worked for a big casket co. for about 5 years. my job was to embroider theinserts in the casket. it was the head panel. I would do everything from flags and military symbols, sports symbols, and the worst, but they wanted it, was a man and woman who died in a big drug bust. the caskets were side by side, and his said "Master" and hers said "Slave" with a ball and chain!!! I kid you not.

I also want some of my ashes to be made into a colored glass ball, about 3-4 inches, and they put your ashes into it as it's being blown. they form a string of stars. If anyone is interested, it's called Artful Ashes. you can't send your ashes by mail. they have to be shipped by Fed Ex, I think it was. you can go there and look it up. they also do hearts.

but back to my quilt, what design should I do??

What are your favorite colors and what do you like to do the most? When my hubby passed we had a headstone with wheat sheave on the one side name b/d on other plus in my corner I had a treadle sewing machine carved[ATTACH=CONFIG]617660[/ATTACH]
