Default funeral quilt

i was talking with a friend, and mentioned that at a funeral i attended, they had a cloth over the urn. it got me thinking, i'd like a quilt over my urn. any idea what I should do? I guess I should make it at least 36" x 36". that will give it enough drape.
so, has anyone seen one at a funeral, and what design to use?
thanks everyone in advance.

neat idea for an urn. I made a quilt for a friend that wanted to replace the one used to cover a body being removed from a nursing home that offered more dignity and less upsetting for the other residents.

I want my funeral, to be a celebration of my life and what was important to me. Yes, I would want some of my favorite quilts to attend. I would prefer them to be on display, and to be enjoyed by my family and friends.

I'm not sure if I would want one draped over my urn or not.

i'd like some of my quilts there too.
But i'm trying to figure out what would be nice.
I've made 4 EPP quilts, usig 3/4" to 1". I like them.
One is my cats quilt, the 3/4" one. But I need some
ideas. I'd like to start it in January. I'm hoping I won't
need it for another 30 years or so. But I like to be prepared
for anything that might come. thanks again.

I think a yo yo quilt would drape nicely over an urn.

Maybe include some symbols that are meaningful to you.

I attended the memorial service for Mary Lou, who had made quilts or wall hangings for almost every member of her family (which is large) and many people brought quilts with them and they had them in their arms before the service and draped over the sides of the pews during the service.

Your comment brought tears to my eyes.

A member of our quilting group passed away recently & one of her favorite quilts was on the casket. She had been a member for over 30 years. The family asked the quilters to bring quilts & they were on the front pews. They also ask the quilters to sit in reserved seating & we shared many fun memories.

What a wonderful idea. I would prefer my favorite quilt be draped over my coffin instead of the typical huge flower arrangement. I would be very pleased and that would save my family a lot of money that could be donated to my favorite charity.

Years ago I was asked to make 2 identical quilts for a woman in a nursing home. One she would use and the other would be the pal on her casket when she died. This way too when the daughter took the one quilt home to launder and bring back the same day her mom always had her precious quilt with her. When she died her quilt was laid over her casket as planned. The quilt took the place of any traditional flowers. Afterwards each of the 2 sisters had their mom's favorite quilt.

Then in 2010 I did something similar for my precious Aunt Mary. She loved purple so on her request I made her a purple quilt that each block was a Bible theme. She slept under it for a bit over a year before she became ill and had to be placed in a nursing home. As she had requested it was placed on her casket when she died. Now I sleep under it. This is that quilt.
To make a small quilt for an Urn would be something very special and made with love before your death with instruction that is should either be entered with you or given to a loved one with your ashes. It is a great privilege to have such a special quilt.
