I am making a crazy quilt out out of batiks. It is heavily beaded. I know that I need to tie off the quilt but I am not sure how to do so. Do the ties go to the back? Do I use embroidery floss? How many strands? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use two strands of thin yarn. I tie it off in the front with about a 1/2" of yarn showing. I am not sure about it being beaded, but I don't see why you couldn't tie it off on the back and leave just a little nub.

I have tied off with embroidery floss and used 3 strands. I have also used perl cotton. When I tie I actually take a single stitch before tying the knot. I like embroidery floss because you can use more then one color, like a strand of black and two of orange and it really adds a nice effect that I thought gave a little more interest then one color. But one color looks good too. Sounds like your quilt may have a lot of visual interest already so you may not wish to detract from that with your ties.

Are you using a muslin foundation? If you are then tie your quilt from the back just into the muslin and not all the way thru to the top. It's the traditional way crazy quilts are tied

I'd never heard that, Scissor Queen. Great info!

I like perl cotton to tie. If the ties will detract from the look of the quilt, I would tie to the back.
