    This is what I do too. Also if you have rusty water come out of your iron, the straight vinegar dabbed on will sometimes remove it from white cotton fabric.

    I use starch to get out wrinkles and to make the backing a bit more slick for free motion quilting. I have a longarm, but also a sit down/stand up Bernina Q16 for free motion and find that the starch gets out wrinkles well and helps the backing fabric slide much more easily.
