Lap robe of minkee. So comforting and soft to touch. But I am new to quilting so perhaps that is inappropriate for adults, and is mostly for children. Good luck and post pictures whatever you decide.

The minkee feels really nice and I think that is a very good suggestion. Something to snuggle with. I have a fleecy lap blanket I was given and it is a great size. When I am in bed reading I throw it over my chest and arms, hands out, so I am warm in winter or when the a/c clicks on. And it is comfortable in other weather too just as a throw.

Here's a link to Minky (or minkee).

It's hard to describe this fabric, but it is thick (like a fleece, but not), with the softest nap I have ever felt. Sort of like petting dog/cat fur that is smooth, silky, satiny, thick and luxurious. It is quite heavy, can have large raised dots (that's my favorite) or not, and WOF is 60". But it is pricey. In stores in California it is about $17.99/yd, but at the link I gave you, some of it is $12.99/yd. Due to the cost I would only use it for a small item such as baby quilt or a lap quilt or for someone very special (like me, lol). I have never tried it, but intend to do so sometime - maybe for DH for Christmas. It's soft as a baby's behind - guaranteed. And for someone undergoing eye surgery, I thought tactile would be good and provide comfort.

Maybe quilt like a little pillow or something with a little pocket to keep things that she might have trouble finding while recovering. I'm so new I don't have alot of ideas. I hope she does well with the surgery.
