Default Good deal on sewing machine?

Hi folks! I hope this is in the right place. I'm looking for my first sewing machine and I found a Brother 9050 for $130.00. I know they retail for around $200.00 but this particular machine is refurbished. I don't have a lot of money to spend and I was wondering if this was a good deal or not? Any advice or opinions would be appreciated...thank you!

You might do better looking for an older vintage machine that is mechanical. The lower end NEW machines tend to be really light weight, so they bounce around and rattle like trains...
Do you need a lot of stitches? I would just be leary of it being TOO cheaply made, and it is already refurbished!
    I wish you luck!

I don't know anything about this particular machine. As Jacquie said, you don't want to throw away your money on something that won't stay with you very long. Try checking for a trade-in at your local shop; maybe you can find something better in your budget. You can also try Craig's List, etc. Good luck, and enjoy your first machine.

If its the SQ9050 I paid 180 a month ago so its a good deal. Its a nice little machine for a starter machine. I really enjoy mine. I have had 2 other brothers, I packed my older one away to give to my baby when she gets old enough to sew, and my MIL sews on my very first brother I got in 93 as a kid. Me personally I'd go for it, just make sure it runs when you first get it since its refurbished my one that I packed away I got off overstock and it is refurbished but the first one they sent me didn't run and you only have 30 days to return, but they were very fast about returning it and gave me a new one which I got mine 7 years ago and have never had any problems with it, and it has never been in the shop and its rerefurbished.
