Grandmother's Garden help
#1
I'm new here and am looking for help finishing a "Grandmother's Garden" quilt. I'm making circles of hexagons and will stitch them to white or maybe yellow blocks. How do I remove the paper as I attach the hexagon circles? Elaine

I stitch them together by hand. Try to not get the paper caught in your whip stitches. I leave the paper in on the outer ring and only remove the ones from the center.
Then when I attach the flowers together I continue to leave the papers in on the outside flowers :D:D:D

just try to picture in your mind- you start with the one in the center - then attach the 5 hexs around that one in the center - you can pull the paper out of the single center one - then do your next round - after that is complete you can take the papers out of the second round and just keep going

Hi Amma. This isn't good news for me - I have all my hexagons stitched together in large circles- 16 of them. What if I remove the paper as I starch them heavily, then pin them to my blocks and quilt the hexagons that way? E

You usually start in the center and yes attach one at a time going around the center hex. Once you get round one done you can take the paper out of the center pc. Then round two when it's done take the paper out of round one and so on.
Sorry to repeat what was said above it wasn't there earlier

Thank you Sharon! I see I've been doing it all wrong. But I didn't have instructions, just guessing. New rule for me -- Never guess. Just like the first quilt I tried to make for my son. A disaster! Didn't know a thing about sharp points and seam allowances.... I, of course, threw it away after my first class. E
