It does look Asian. I love the scrappy look as well.

yes, that is what I did, I just raw edged them down as full circles on larger squares and then cut away the back fabric
and use it again, so on and so forth until the last circle is on and then I cut the block into quarters and put them back together. I used the leftover circles to pin between to fill out the top. I did not have a real pattern I just made it up as I went along.

It looks wonderful, you did a great job!
