12-26-2022Forgot to add that I will use the close match in the bobbin and the exact match on top if the stitching only shows on the outside. It takes some planning but I have a stash of thread to pick from. Not only does it save me $ but it also saves me a trip to pick up more thread.

Craftsy has Gutermann thread on sale right now, they have 870 ( or something like that) yard spools and 30 colors... A couple grays--- maybe the gray you are looking for

When I find a color that I feel I must have and it ONLY comes in a small spool. I will use a neutral blender thread alone with the perfect color. If I want the color to show on the back, then I quilt backwards (bottom on the top and my bobbin thread is the neutral). I will use the perfect thread in the bobbin if I have to use the neutral thread in the top for SD. I've used Gutermann for years (because my machine loves it), and this is how they roll.

Thanks, vikiyn. It's a good resource and they have a reasonably-priced color chart. Is embroidery thread interchangeable with regular sewing thread? Does it have the same strength?
