While he probably knows the costs of anything hunting related he has no clue as to what it costs to do a quilt - have him go to lqs in area and ask them what they charge and to look at the cost of fabric - if hes the internet type just give him a few sites to look at. I am like you he wants greatness for nothing - I would be leary about selling to him!!! cheryl

if it was me - $650 wouldn't be near enough!!! especially hand quilted. even my little baby quilts that i hand embroider would be worth more than that because it takes me anywhere from 6 mos to 1 year to finish. materials don't cost much but time... that's something else. of course, i do enjoy time spent embroidering but still.... that's why i give my quilts away to people i love.

I love the comparison to a bear hunt. Plan to keep that for future reference. Stick to your price, its low in my opinion.

Sounds like working with this person would be a mistake from the get-go. I think maybe I'd just be too busy to have time to do the quilt.

He's got to be kidding - $650 for a hand quilted king size quilt is a steal. Refer him to this website so he can see what is being charged for hand quilted pieces.

A special order that is hand quilted? You are way underestmating the cost of a special order. I would charge more in the $800-$1000 range.
