Hair spray used as basting spray?
#13
and another thing to think about - it's flammable!! if you spray some hair spray into the air and immediately light a cigarette lighter or match where u sprayed it, it will burst into a big ball of fire in mid air. the guys used to do that to us ladies in barber school. so if u use hair spray for basting - do not use it around any flame.

So, you are dealing with super sticky fingers and soaking wet fabric that still won't stay where you want it to. I used it on 6 blocks for a Quilt as You Go and I went straight back to the basting spray.
JMHO:)

Thanks so much, Lynette!! It is sooooo nice to hear from someone who has been there, done that!! I much prefer to learn from others than having to make ALL the mistakes myself!!
I really appreciate all of you who have responded, and the links to previous listings. Very informative. I am hurriedly making a quilt to take to my 96 year old mother, who has just been diagnosed with cancer in her liver, adrenal glands and kidney. She has lived a long life, and we have been blessed to have her. DH and DD and I are leaving Saturday to go and be with her. DH and DD will come home in a week -- I will likely stay. What a blessing she has been in my life! I am spoiled, and I know it! I am praying that the Lord will take her quickly and that she doesn't suffer needlessly. She is still living on her own in an apartment, and up until the last year, she was still leading the seniors in her complex to do America Bakes and other wonderful things! Quite the lady, eh?? I am hoping to be like her -- when I grow up!~!! (only a young 62!!)

Well I know DH and the boys use hair spray to get a blast out of their sput gun. They position a potato in the gun, spray hair spray , ignite and shoot my potatoes all over the grove or desert. That potato is out of sight! I wonder though if the basting spray isn't the same. I use the cheap Walmart stuff. My kids now give me a can of basting spray for my birthday and for Christmas because they know I am always out and need it.

Anyone try this?
I'm seriously considering it!
