I'm a hand quilter and also love to hand piece and appliqué.

My blog has some of my finished UFO's.

I would love to machine quilt at times but have yet to master this skill. Mostly do by hand because to me it's so relaxing. I enjoy the process.

The only bad spot on it is where the cat recently bit through some sashing. and there are lots of antique quilts with us that were hand pieced and still holding up after decades.

Thanks for answering my question before I asked it!

Okay, next question: how do you all like to mark your quilt top prior to quilting...or do you skip that part?

When I mark, I use Sewline or Fons And Porter marking pencils.

I have been hand quilting for about 20 years. I learned from books. lol. Lots of mistakes. My Grandmother quilted but I didn't get to know her. We lived across the country from her. She is my inspiration for learning to quilt. I still have the Fruit Basket quilt she made almost 70 years ago.

I am a hand-quilter and English-paper-piecer, but past couple of years have been machine piecing and quilting so I can get more quilts done. Got my eye on a Handiquilter Sweet 16 sometime in the next few years. Saying that, handquilting is my first love....I'd be lost without it, therapy and beauty....just what an old girl needs in life.

Hello Sewmerry... yes there are a few of us who hand quilt!!! Even I've been surprised to see all the wonderful responses to your question!! I use the Thimblelady's thimble after taking a class in OKC at a LQS, and I use a wonderful hoop I bought from Harry Barnett at Laptop Hoops. He makes them himself and they're great. Lots of sweet time spent with my needle and thread...

I do both machine and hand quilting. The quilt will tell you what it wants done if you listen. I love the hand quilted look when I use a reproduction fabic like 30's prints. I like to keep the quilting in the same time as the fabric. I have also hand quilted batiks too. Sometimes, I have done both machine and hand quilting on the same quilt. I don't follow any rules.
