My DD & I both hand quilt. We also hand piece some, & also machine piece. I did machine quilt one quilt a long time ago on my regular home sewing machine. It was difficult to do & I wasn't happy with the results. I've seen many machine quilted items that I loved & many that I did not.

The first quilt I ever made(4 yrs. ago) was hand pieced and hand quilted. I didn't have a machine, but wanted to make a quilt for my grandaughter. Then my DH bought me a machine. I haven't hand pieced since but continue to hand quilt and applique. I do love FMQ...practice.practice,practice.
I was recently at a quilt show and only saw a few handquilted items, let alone hand pieced. I don't want it to be a lost art. Glad to see so many of you hand quilt.

I am in the same position as cwesse147. When friends ask my son if his mother is a quilter, he replies " she makes quilt tops and I do not want to learn to quilt after she is gone." I do have a stack waiting to be hand quilted. I am intimidated but the beautiful machine quilting so many of you do. Got to work on that.

I hand quilt and do not even desire to machine quilt. I feel to hand quilt is an art that others have started to do so they can do in a short time. Hand quilting is relaxing. I have done many quilts for others that desire hand quilting. It is wonderful.

The very first quilt I made was made for my daughter and it was hand quilted, although it was some years ago. Unfortunately, too many years spent as a secretary and I developed carpal tunnel syndrome. In order to keep working and to keep quilting, I switched to machine quilting, although the hand quilting was very relaxing. My cat preferred it too as he could bat the quilt and the needle while I quilted, he only tried that once with the sewing machine. LOL. I can probably hand quilt small items, but my wrists don't want to cooperate, unfortunately.
