I just went to California last month and my carryon and purse were scanned many times - my applique kit contained two small scissors and a seam ripper and nobody gave it a second look. (But, I was selected for secondary screenings a few times - I guess I look like the type who might have explosives residue on her hands. ;) )

You could also carry a dental floss container - it has a built-in floss cutter. :)

If you have one of those needle threaders that has a thread cutter on it, you can't even see the cutter. Its made by clover.

At least you're checking ahead of time. I would be the one that packed it all up, hauled all of it and then found out at the security checkpoint...

That's what I'd do. In any case, don' t bring any scissors you wouldn't want to lose.

I'd get a clover brand medallion cutter. They are pretty, you wear them on a chain. Both michaels and joann's carry them.

I have taken small scissors on a plane. They can't have a sharp point but small rounded tip ok. Had no problem taking through the Vegas and Washington, Dulles airports.
