Default Leftovers

I am finishing up a baby quilt for a girl at my work who just had a baby boy.i have lots of fabric left over including yards and yards of striped bias binding. Is there anything I can make with the leftover fabrics and binding? Do young mothers still use "burp cloths" ? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Sure do. Bibs would work well too.

Yes, burp cloths and cloth baby wipes are very popular these days because so many people are going green. I just finished a dozen or so cloth wipes to match the baby blanket it did. The mommies-to-be that I know, love them! Good luck!

How big is a burp cloth and how many layers would it be?

There are some great free tutorial out there for burp cloths, Very easy to make I made a bunch for my DIL.I think it was width of fabic and 14 inches. use a small plate to make the edges round, sew right sides together and done. Flannel for one side also works well since it will stay on their shirts better.

Do you have enough fabric for a diaper bag or a tote bag? Might be cute to match the quilt.

Those are some good ideas! I wouldn't have thought of a diaper bag or bibs...I will look for some patterns or tutes, as I have never made anything like that. I have almost a whole yard of one fabric and scraps of the others, plus the binding. Thank you!

A nice little "bag" can be made with a changing mat. These are handy for the quick outings without taking a big bag along and are very useful for the older infant as well.
Here's a link or two

I'm sitting here looking at the dirty burp cloth that grandbaby used tonight. There is also a dirty bib and a blankie in her laundry pile. I'm sure that the mom you just made the quilt for would love to have matching pieces. Or maybe you could make them and have them on hand for the next friend to have a baby.
