I have a Bernina, when I bought it I was told it didn't need to be oiled, and removing the cover would void the warrenty. So, when I clean it, I use a q-tip with one drop of oil on the tip. The lint clings to the oil, it gets cleaned and oiled with out voiding the warrenty. It takes several q-tips to get it clean. And I can get into the very small places to get the stray lint the brush won't reach. When I FMQ, the lint builds up fast. I check it after every bobbin. Just be carefull not to catch the cotton on anything and tear it off.

I was told not to oil my Elna, could be why I am now told it is showing wear.
I also use a q-tip with a drop of oil to clean where the brush won't reach, and the bobbin trace?

I use a pipe cleaner to get in the little tight places. It grabs the dust and will bend easily. I have to keep them away from my female kitty as she thinks they are play toys for her to chase.

i will have to try pipe cleaners! Thanks for the tip! i also use sample mascara wands..the brushes to a great job of getting in the nooks! (you can get them from a make up counter)
i also bought a mini vac kit on ebay, usually used for computers and things like that. it has an adapter to attach to your own hose on your vac. they also make one that works on batteries..but never tried it . cost about 12 bucks when i bought mine.

You ladies just reminded me to call the guy for my yearly service on my machine... ok maybe the bi-yearly service on it. but I oil it every so often. I also have access to a gammell and you have to oil that thing before every quilt so I do that every time i put a new one on the rack.
