I love to quilt, but, hate to do alterations, hemming, or even sewing buttons on. If anyone asks, I just tell them that I only do quilts.

imagine the nerve of him "assuming" that just because you have a sewing machine, that you would actually KNOW how to tailor his pants! How silly is that!
Of course in the Good old days a women with a sewing machine DID in fact take in sewing why else would she have the machine!

hahahahha- when DH's brother and his <ahem> wife moved in for a stay till they could find their own space-I was constantly being asked to help her sew this up or that up (but yet she knew how to sew!pffftt no she didn't!) and then when he found out I had an embroidery machine too- he wanted me to embroidery several shirts etc.. Ummmm let me think- No but Hades NO ! LOL (and I helped her once to do her hemming;then she knew how to do it all !LOL)

Hey, I applique in church and afterwards (the minister is just fine with it) and I've had men ask me what I'm crocheting! This guy had a really big set of ______. To see something in someone's house where he is providing a service and assuming you would want to do alterations takes a lot of guts! I like your response. You are so kind.

    VERY funny.

Yeah, nobody sews anymore. Someone once offered to pay me to sew on their buttons.
And to think I took sewing in HomEc as a kid and made an apron. I still have it!
