You might look into the Husqvarna Viking Sapphire. I have one, and it sews like a dream, plus it has a variety of quilting stitches to choose from!

If I hadn't just purchased a machine I would probably be looking at a Husqvarna Viking Sapphire. The 10" armm looks awesome. There are several on ebay.

Hello and welcome from Ontario. I know many here like the Janome machines as second machines. I use Pfaff's but I haven't tried their lower end machines yet.

If you can't afford or don't want to spend money on one of the newer 10 inch throat machines, I would suggest a Janome 6500 or 6600 (although I personally don't like the 6600 due to the dual feed feature). They have a 9 inch throat and are real workhorses!
