Default HELP~thread keeps coming out my take up lever

Hi Everyone,
I'm making a rag quilt and using clear thread for making the X through each square. I have always used the clear thread and it's never jumped out of the take up lever before. Why does it keep doing this. I have a Viking Desginer SE. Any thoughts?? Your input is greatly appreciated. I have to keep re-threading the machine. errrrr
Thanks

If your take up is the kind with just the open scroll(no any grab bars/disks) you can thread left to right to help with thread jumping when using slippery thread.

My DH has a sewing machine repair business so I asked him. He said to make sure your thread is going through all the guides. The top tension might be too loose - tension should be around 4. I try not to use the invisible thread cuz I also have a lot of problems with it.

I have been using the monopoly thread lately for my rag quilts, and I really like it. I do put it on a thread stand behind the machine and I use one of those mesh thread covers to keep it under control. It works really well. Even on an older Kenmore which shocks the heck out of me.

Make sure your presser foot is up when you are threading the machine.

The nylon clear thread has a mind of its own. The polyester monofilament thread behaves much better.

Is there an advantage to using a clear thread rather than a cotton thread to sew the X through the blocks? Just curious since I've always used cotton thread and sometimes use a contrasting color as a design element.

Yes mgmrsk it is the type with the open scroll. Thanks for your tip I think I understand what you meant by threading left to right :/ Thanks for your help

mckwilter-I used the clear as I didn't want to pull away attention from the design in the fabric. I may be switching to cotton though if this continues to be an issue.

I'm going to have to try the polyester monofilament thread dunster. Where do you get yours? Thanks
