help with a block
i`m pretty good at cutting and piecing but can`t get a 1/4 in on my dark purple sq
has anyone made this called holiday squares fromthe quilter quilting for christmas 2004
my measurments are purple sq 27/8
lite 41/4 cut in 4
med 37/8 cut into 2
are these measurments right?

Love the fabric you chose. Your seam allowance looks short where the two blocks are attached. Their should be a 1/4 of an inch between the purple point and the edge of the seam. When working with HSTs, your stitching has to be very accurate. Check you seam allowances. I have EQ so I would draw the block and do them PPing to get better accuracy. Good Luck!

When you say 4.25" square cut into 4 (triangles), that means that you have 2 bias edges & it is a QST instead of a HST. That means you have 2 bias edges instead of 1 & it's easier to stretch out of shape.
I'd probably go with a HST cut from a 3" square instead of doing QST's. It will make it easier to keep the fabric from stretching out of shape. Other than that, your measurements are correct.

thanks my 1/4 inch is right on
ijust tried with scrap cutting triangles a little bigger then was going to sq up but it still didn`t work
guess i`m not meant tomake this block
will try 3 inch although never had trouble with bias before

spray fabric with starch before cutting. That should help with bias. then pin, pin, pin. and sew. sometimes making the light fabric pieces a bit larger helps. you can always trim edges of quilt blocks. that seam is important. keep trying, you will get it!!
