I have always (well you know how that goes) finished with the darkest color (binding). Not sure where I heard that "rule" but it does seem to work. Plus the edges get dirty first, shows less.

Black. I have seen dark purple that looks great also.

I made a similar quilt and used a dark navy and it really popped the collor without using black.

Beautiful Quilt. The winner will be so very happy.

Next time try the QAYG by column.. Yep, I love this method and I don't end up having to deal with your question about sashing. Search youtube or Candy Glendening. She has a 4 pt series on QAYG with no hand work. I do leave a good 1//2 in at the right side of every column.. AND now I'm making my backing all in one piece, only add the batting and next column for quilting.
