Default Help with design

Hi all,

I have to come up with a donation quilt, wall hanging, for a bingo our guild is having. I had these machine embroidered feather blocks fitting around, so I used the QAYG method and stuck them together with borders. Then I thought it looked too plain, so since I love doing wool applique, I started cutting wool shapes. I plan on free motion quilting the borders and around the applique pieces. What else does it need? Be honest. I'm not good at designing!
Thanks!

I prefer it without the appliqué, I would finish it with a dark solid binding

I prefer it with plain borders just put some quilting in to hold together. Those blocks are fantastic and need to stay main focus.

Agree with others...I would not use the applique. Also like just a plain border..no sashing.
Beautiful blocks!

Wow. I'm kinda surprised so many people didn't like the wool applique. I was going to suggest more of that & maybe some beading in the redwork. And to keep the one applique Spring/Summer related & make the other one Fall/Winter themed.

From my view, the issue with leaving it plain is going to be how to quilt it. It can't really be quilted in a contrasting color or it will compete with the redwork -- so that means you'll have very large borders that -- especially the patterned fabric -- will not show the quilting much at all. I think at this point, I'd maybe go with a thin layer of trapunto just to help break up the borders a tiny bit with the quilting.

Gorgeous as is. No applique is my vote, too. The dark red setting strips draw attention to the embroidery, which should remain the focus.
