    Default Black Batting

I had been seeing the batting showing through black fabric when quilting, so I knew I needed to buy black batting. I have had a hard time finding any. One place online actually said I would have to go through a Quilt Shop and have them contact the Company about price and ordering and so on!!
I finally found some online at Virginia Quilters, which cost me $22.00 for a roll big enough for the quilt!
As I have never bought this before, my question is....was this a usual price or not? It seemed like a lot of money to me! Does anyone know where I can get it a little cheaper? I am going to be needing to get more for some other quilts. Thanks for your imput.

I've purchased it before from Threads of Time in Danville, Il. and it seems to me that it was around the price of the other battings. You don't mentions how big your quilt is but I'd think it would be at least full size for that price. It's been a year or so since I purchased it and it was only about 4 ft but it was very wide, I think it was $8-$12.

I know they make it but I've never seen it on the shelves of my LQS. I imagine that because not many quilters use it the price will be higher than regular batt. If you need it for a dark quilt there is not much else you can do but pay the extra I guess. You could try black fleece in the middle but that's fairly expensive also and I'm not sure how it will handle. Good Luck.

I lucked into a Warm & Natural bolt of black batting a few years ago.
My local Joann's mgr said it wasn't selling and I could buy it for $.50/yard.
40 yards for $20. I think my biggest score ever.
As I use black often in my quilts, it's come in handy.
And I have enough left for a few quilts.

The prices at Kings Men are pretty reasonable. They have poly and cotton and mixed battings, white, natural and black.

I recently ordered from them and it was ok (a bit of a problem with an error in the shipment and subsequent return).
Prices are certainly the lowest around.
But I'd order from them again - although call first to make sure they're still shipping. (888) 744-0070
There was a thread recently suggesting otherwise.

You don't mention the size you bought.
    Here are Hancock's offerings:

Connecting threads has it for queen size 80/20 for around $21.00. Not sure what size your quilt is but I think that is a fair price.

King's Men may have closed; the owners retired (read on another board).

I have rarely seen black batting in a LQS.

But there appear to be several online stores that have it:

Connecting Threads has a queen size: http://www.connectingthreads.com/too...g__D20826.html

Quilter's Warehouse has it as well: http://www.quilterswarehouse.com/s-2...t-batting.aspx

These are just two that I saw.

The size is for a double, and the batting is 92" by 96". Thank you so much for all your replies. I feel better now about the price I paid. Before I have to buy any more I will check out the other sites you provided for me. Thanks again.
This is such a helpful and inspiring place

Glad to see they're not retiring. Hope the prices remain as attractive as in the past.
