I'm making a quilt for our great-granddaughter. I made a wedding quilt for the parents 5 years ago with the lovers knot pattern. the parents want me to incorporate that design into the baby quilt. I have made the strip which is 22x52inches. Should I place it at the top, the bottom, the center or to one side? I think the quilt will be about 52 inches square. I plan to maybe make it a row quilt with hearts, x's and o', her name appliqued and maybe a rabbit or two. I used the pattern from Eleanor Burns Lovers Knot quilt book, the table runner dimensions. I do appreciate any ideas you have.

i think a row quilt is a great idea. the position of the lover's knot would depend what your other rows look like.

since you have that long of a width (52 inches) I would do it as a row quilt too..... maybe some solid rows in between along with other pieced rows.... possibly even different widths to give it some interest!

Since your lovers knot strip is 22" wide, nearly half the size of the quilt-to-be, I would put it in the middle with the other rows top and bottom.

I would center it, otherwise it may look like an after thought.

I think if you put it vertical and off center with no other pieced blocks it would make an awesome modern looking quilt. Maybe use bright colored solid fabrics for the knots. If you want more traditional make it horizontal with other pieced rows, but I agree with luvspaper that you should have some spacers with this layout.
