I made this quilt for my son because he loves his converse sneakers. Using just one focal accountant fabric with a linear design would be a good bet for an accountant and a man. Nothing fussy for these guys.

I like this idea because I want him to use this quilt thru out his life. We often grow out of a passion for ?? jobs, sports, hobbies, but something like you are talking of would be good! Thanks for your input!

Accounting is all about debits and credits, and the fact that the two are always equal (at least they are if you do it correctly!). With that in mind, I would look for a two-color quilt with equal amounts of the two colors. The most obvious that I can think of is Robbing Peter to Pay Paul, but that has lots of curves, which I personally would not attempt. There is also Hunter's Star, or a four piece Rail Fence. Positive/negative versions of most any block will get you the same result. Another advantage to this approach is that if he changes majors it doesn't scream Accountant. BTW, I am also an Accountant. ;-)

P.S. I just went and did a search. Kaleidoscope, Winding Ways, Jacob's Ladder, and Jewel Box would also work.

Check Google for Abacus themed quilts. Just another idea.

I really like this one! I studied accounting in college, but worked only as a bookkeeper. This quilt really caught my eye. I have seen pictures of the Plus quilt, but never made one. Maybe now?

I agree with "quilt1950". My son went to college for golf management and finance and he is now a policeman and has been for 12 years. So------what they go to college to study may not be what they end up doing for a career. Ask your grandson what colors he would like and maybe go from there. Good luck in your decision.
