Not sure if this means with the entire quilt or just some of the blocks.
My original goal was a scrappy quilt using fat qtrs that were not my favorite and had no real plan for.
I suspect the 2nd column, the 2 lower blocks are examples of missing value.
The pic is obviously just a portion of the quilt.
Please note: I am not unhappy or questioning the judges comments, at all. Just looking for creative growth.
Am I on the right track?
Thank you for any feedback. Jo
Value refers to the lightness or darkness of a hue (or color). When applied correctly, it creates depth and emphasis on parts of the quilt. Really, it's what Makes the quilt. In looking at your quilt, the values are too similar, resulting in a quilt that does not "pop". The values are too close. If I got the comment that you got, I wouldn't expect the judge to explain it but, rather, I'd saturate myself with all the information I could find on Value. It is a term of art in the quilting world.

Now, perhaps you wanted a very soft look, as your quilt has, and that's okay; but when you enter a quilt in a show, judges are looking for the wow factor. Just sayin' . . . Good luck in future shows. Everything is a learning experience.

I agree, my quilt looked boring, "middle of the road" boring next to others. I guess I like boring, Lol!

Well, not being a judge, I love your scrappy quilt. Our Guild was commenting on how judges have their own way and how we need to establish some guidelines before they judge i.e. ignoring the longarm quilting when the entry was mainly on how quilt was pieced together etc. Not sure we have come up with anything yet but we are still talking about how to make it better. (and Zozee..thanks for sharing video on color and value!)

Thank you all so much for your feedback, input, suggestions!!!!
Didn't mean to vanish on the thread, my work days are long days and don't always check emails/QB.
First thing to learn is how to switch my phone camera to B/W.
