Several weeks ago there were instructions for an interesting block which I didn't bookmark and would like to find again. Two 8 inch squares were placed RST and the stitching started 2 inches down from one corner, along that side and the next, then 2 inches down again and back around.
It was cut 2 inches in from two sides, etc. I made a block but didn't write any instructions down and now I can't remember just how to do it. Anyone out there who can help me?

No kidding...that sounds VERY interesting. Did you look through "watched links"..or your top log...or any of those links on the top of this page in blue?? I've relocated some things I couldn't find going through that.

Your description reminds me of this:

    http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/d...html?idx=12909

Scroll down to where it says "For A Limited Time" and you can download the pattern (for, well, a limited time): ;-)

    Great pattern, great designer!

I'm not sure what you mean by 'link log'.

At the top of the page there are some options, including "Watched Topics" and "Topic Log" on the bottom row.

However, neither would help in this situation.

Watched Topics - a thread will only show if someone else posted to the thread AFTER you last viewed it. As it was several weeks ago, it's probably way back and not being viewed. It's totally possible that in a month or two from now someone will find it and post to it, which will make it show up again next time you click Watched Topics.

Topic Log - is a list of the topics you recently viewed. But it only lists back a certain number of topics (I'm not sure of the exact amount, but it certainly isn't going back several weeks ;-) ) , and if you've logged off, it will clear out everything for that session. And sometimes it clears it out within a session.

    HTH.

That's a very interesting method of making the block. It is so amazing how designers come up with these methods. Thanks for sharing the link.

Thank you for asking about this! Perfect solution to a baby quilt I've been trying to settle on a pattern for. Downloaded & saved!

What do you think about combining this block with a disappearing four patch? I'm working on a d4p right now and I think it might be interesting to either alternate the two or maybe feature this block in every other row surrounding the center of the quilt.

I'll have to convert it to a larger size, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

    Any thoughts?

I think it would totally stop the flow of the blocks. JMHO

Depending on the coloring, you can some neat secondary designs/patterns without a 2nd different block.

Just do a Google image search and you'll see a few different variations:
I'm not even crazy about the one with the sashing.

Thanks MTS! I'll do some searching. My d4p does have sashing, but I'll have to play with it in EQ and, as you suggested, Google it.

Oops, sorry, I wasn't referencing the D4P in regard to the sashing.

So now it's a bunch of quilt blocks with sashing.
    Meh.

I just think, personally, JMHO, in the case of this block, they look better without anything else mixed in.

You are absolutely right about the arrowhead. I saw some two color ones that were beautiful. I'll definitely use that block separately, maybe in my next quilt.

    Thanks!
