Make a flannel 'Yellow Brick Road' quilt. My husband loves his flannel quilt. It's throw size....perfect for 'watching' the race with his eyes shut.

I made this quilt with plaids and it was a gift for a male cousin. It's a free download here:

I like Warm Wishes also. There are many manly outdoor or sports fabrics to chose from for the focus fabric. Hope you get it done in time.

Rail Fence is quick to stitch and to quilt in the ditch. All of the other ideas are super, too, but mostly a "male" quilt depends on the fabrics chosen.

In today's digest is a pattern for a 4 hr quilt--a Carpenter's Star. How about that one?

I’m almost done with this blue and grey quilt for my stepson, it reminds me of the old school razor blades that my dad used.

I made a chevron quilt last year for a male friend of DD. I used a new pattern and it was way too time consuming. I prefer the chevron pattern from Missouri Star. I made one the year before using Jenny's pattern for a dear friend. It is quick and easy to do.

As someone mentioned, Disappearing 9-patch or Bonnie Hunter's Bricks and Stones. Have made one each for men. Using their favorite colors or team colors is a great idea that someone suggested. Here are the 2 quilts I made. The Disappearing 9-patch was put on point. The leftovers from the Bricks and Stones were used to make a lap quilt for me for my Library.

If you are thinking of more of a novelty pattern, I found this site not long ago and she has some really cute "male" patterns. I.e. pipes, hammers, wrenches...
