Default 100 % poylester question for backing.

I am doing a quilt for an 11 year old girl who wants the backing
"silky"....How hard will it be to use a sheet that is 100 per cent polyester
for the back? I know it will be slippery....any tips? thanks for any thoughts on this.

It shouldn't be too hard to do and will wear well with constant use and washing. I'm not sure I would use 100% cotton for the top as it has such different properties. It could be more cuddly with a soft batting like a high loft poly.

I did not think they made sheets that are 100 percent poly, I learned something. Back in the day when quilting was not as popular as it is. I almost always used sheets that had poly in them for backings. They wash and wear well. I machine quilted mine. Just a note slippery fabric is a real pain to sew on ... it slips and slides on the machine. If you are going to machine quilt it your self .. can you quilt it top down? That way the cotton is on the machine bed , not the slippery fabric. Consider a stipple type quilting.

For a slippery backing, I would probably wash and heavily starch satin before layering. The idea about putting the cotton side down is great!

It will be fine. Just put a lot of pins in when you sandwich it. I hope everything is prewashed in case they shrink at different rates.
