Help Needed for thread storage/organization
#11
Here is what I use. I got them at Joanns. I see they are 50% off now. I put spools by color in each drawer and write the color number with a Sharpie on the top of each spool. I put in dividers between rows of spools to keep them from getting mingled together.

Wow, I am impressed with the organizing and labels! I store mine in boxes from J's. They are blues with blues ect ect. I find that my machine will call for a certain # of a color. I do not always have or am not able to obtain the particular number so I look for a color that is close. I also think that the thread companies add new colors or change names. Very frustrating! My machine is happy with sulky so that is what I have most of. Does anyone else notice this? I audition my exchange color in 6 D and they turn out nice.

I sort by number too. I have mine on a rack so I put the number on the inside of the spool with a fine sharpie pen. You just have to tip the spool sideways & put the tip of the pen inside the spool to write. I figured once the package was taken off the spool I would have no way of knowing what # it was without marking the spool itself

I have mine in plastic shoe boxes, sorted by color. I started with one brand name and now I have several different brands. Sorting them by number doesn't work for me. The manufactures are always adding and deleting colors and it got confusing. I don't go by the designers suggested color charts all the time, if it's #1111 yellow I just pick the yellow I like best and use it.
