Help OBW
This a first try at a OBW & the fabric I chose was not a good choice. Now my problem is the blocks look fine sepreate, but when you place them together they look like a blur. So would you go ahead & sew them together anyway or would you sew triangles on each corner & put sashing in between the blocks to break them up? Any suggestions are welcome.

Go into pictures and click on the sticky for photo gallery, then click on OBW. You will see several great OBW's and different layouts. I think I might add turquoise, green or blue triangles and make the star pattern OBW?

A OBW is supposed to blur the line between one block and the other. The colors are supposed to flow from one to another. If you prefer, you certainly can separate the blocks with sashing or triangles. Then you have a stack & whack kaleidoscope quilt!
Here are some pictures of OBWs:

I have the same fabric and have trying to figure out what to do with it. I'd love to see you with the whole quilt placements as a OBW to see if the blurring and fading to different areas of color does work. If not, the second way as a kaleidoscope is really pretty too. I think either is going to an outstanding quilt.

I actually like them both ways. The milifleur (sp) appeal of the top picture is awesome and the separated with the blue back ground showcases each design. I bought this fabric to make a OBW also and your work has made me anxious to get it started.
You might want to try getting them all made and get them on a design wall so you can play with them. It would look cool to add individual blocks into a blue border around the blended blocks. Just an idea.
If you don't like the blended way after you play a while then go ahead with the traditional blocks. Keep us posted as you progress 'cause this is really cool!

If you plan to quilt around each hex, it will give that bit of separation but still be blended. Its rich and sophisticated and i think more impressive and interesting to look at as a whole vs show-casing the individual blocks but either way its fabulous. Just be sure about what you do so that you won't be wishing you'd done it the other way once its too late!
