Minky shrinks and I've had a red piece bleed, so when in doubt wash it first.

I always wash minky before I use it in quilting but I have never seen it shrink or bleed. I have used it a lot for backing and sold it for about 10 years.

I think the term "minky" is used to describe any number of fabrics of varying qualities made by numerous companies. Some do not shrink or bleed; others, according to many of you, do. I have never had that experience, but I have used only Minky Cuddle by Shannon Fabrics from quiltedtreasures.com. I think it's the best.

I do not prewash my minky..... but dont think it would hurt if you feel better about washing it... it washes great

No, not necessary. Just use a walking foot.
