Default Help.. prewash the minky?

I bought a panel and washed it. I just bought some minky to go on the back. My question is, should I also prewash the minky? I have never used minky before. Thanks you

I don't think minky shrinks or bleeds and I have used it for several backs. But if you would feel better washing it, it won't hurt anything, either. What it will do is shed when you cut it, but that will stop, so don't let it worry you. Just be ready to vacuum after you cut It makes for a very cozy feeling quilt!

If this is for a baby quilt then it should be prewashed.

suern3 told you all you need to know. You can always wash the finished quilt before using it or giving it away.

This is the safest time to wash it. Washing is a must if you are going to stitch around the edge and turn it inside out.

Thanks, sushi, I didn't think to add that I always wash my quilts before giving them. I want them to be fresh and clean, plus, I want to check for any lose seams, etc.

minky shrinks ..ask me how i know! i've used minky to make quilts for my grands and for backing of nearly all of their quilts. it shrinks. it doesn't bleed, but it soes shrink. and i agree with pewa88 ..if any fabric/textile is to be used by children ..it should be prewashed to remove all the toxic chemicals. there are many starting with sizing which contains chemicals similar to if not same as embalming fluid.

Agreed roguequilter -- Minky shrinks -- made a baby quilt without washing anything before hand, washed and dried it before I gave it away and it scrunched up a lot. Had to pitch the quilt.

I washed the minky I got on clearance as it had what appeared to be grease stains from the machinery along the edge. It almost all came out and amazingly there wasn't that much lint in dryer either.
