Default Help with quilting motif

Hello!

I'm brand new here and come searching for advice!

I have just finished this quilt top for my 8 month old daughter and now need to quilt it! I'm looking for some suggestions as to a simple motif that I could use. The only one I have come up with so far is a diagonal criss cross (X) through the middle of the white squares. I would like something with a little bit of interest, but still something that is less technical as I will be free motion quilting it on a small machine

Any ideas?

Thank you!

P.S. Sorry, I had troubles uploading my own picture (kept giving me an error) but THIS is a picture of the pattern online!

What about a flower? It's just crosshatching plus a row of curves on either side of the line.

Thanks for the reply! I LOVE it (especially because when I look at the quilt currently I see flowers vs. a ring)!!!

Any other ideas are more than welcomed!

Straight patchwork pieces go really well with circular quilting motifs. I like the flower idea. You could also do swirls or circles.

I love the suggestion by bree123. I'm going to do the flower thing on a throw I'm just finishing up. Thanks bree123.

An edge to edge swirling meander would look nice. It's easy to FMQ and you can make it big so that the baby quilt will be soft. My last baby quilt was too heavily quilted so I found it was stiff.

I would also do a curve gently sloping stitching diagonally in a row just stitching on one side at a time and continuing on to the next without stopping. Sort of like crosshatching with curves.

Also, something to keep in mind, your batting dictates the maximum distance apart your quilting stitches can be. Following the package directions will keep the batting in your quilt from bunching or worse. Looks like all the suggestions above should be good.

As far as photos, the board has a file size limit. Follow these instructions:

Very pretty as well. I actually used a meander on my first daughters quilt and just as you said, it ended up being too heavily quilted and is quite stiff Lesson learned!!
