The Rowenta's have known issues with starting fires. Sparking up, etc. I saw a nice reviews for an Oliso, but I like the Shark I have. It is heavy but works well.

I had an issue with it not steaming if the water tank is more than half empty. Called Shark and they sent another one. Was actually another company... Europro, I think. I tried to find the post to give you the model but I type way too much ...

Totally agree with forgetting the spray irons and using spray bottle. I have had several Rowenta irons and been disappointed. I, too, go to Big Lots and spend $20 or less. The fewer "bells and whistles" the fewer things can go wrong.

Hope this opens for you... I have had this one for several years and I love it.. It's auto-shutoff is great, it gets hot, has good steam and it's not so darn heavy.. I use it all the time, it's my main iron.

I bought several irons that didn't get hot enough. I also don't want the iron to turn itself off. I went to a flea market and bought 3 old irons that I love. My favorite is a small travel iron that gets really hot and is light weight.

I love the old irons that weigh a ton. I have bought a few at thrift stores and they hold up wondefully. I would avoid a Rowenta even though they are supposed to have a good name, they leak too much and ask me how I know !
