a hexagon is six triangles of 60 degrees each which will equal a 360 degree circle in the very center. Hence, to do a hexagon, you have to have six layers in order to have a complete hexagon/stack and whack style.
I am not understanding how, if you take four layers in a square, cut in quarters and then cut the quarters into half square triangles, you could ever get a complete block? with the latter formula, you would need eight layers of fabric to get a complete square again. :?
