I recently started the quilt "Sawtooth Cats" http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/sawt...hp?page_id=750

I am no newby to PP but hint #1 that really helped me is really reducing my stitch length. Normally I do when PP but I decided to really dial it down on this one. I got the pattern about 8 or 9 years ago after I had just recently learned PP. I had copied all my foundation patterns on regular copy paper. So I reduced my stitch length waaaay down to just a few dashes above #1 (on a Bernina). Then when removing my paper I folded it at the stitch line and ran my fingernail along it. The paper is coming off as easy as pie. It did make for some interesting mutterings on the few pieces I had to unsew.

I am not good at applique and was dreading preparing those tails. Not only are they applique but each unit is pieced with those little sawteeth. UGH, probably the biggest reason I have put off making this quilt for as long as I have was prepping those applique tails. Well I worked on them this week and here is what I did. I folded my seam allowance under before removing the paper foundation. Pressed it real good in small sections. Then opened it up and removed my paper foundation. The fabric "remembered" the fold and pressing. So then I applied a very small amount of Arlene's Tacky glue (water soluble, very thick, white craft glue that is cheaper then elmers) and refolded over my seam allowance then set it with my iron. All 20 tails were completed this weekend and they turned out great, well I think they turned out great.

These great hints I got here on this board. I picked them up from Amma but I bet others have posted them as well. I love the QB!

Oh and don't worry, when I finish up Sawtooth Cats I will post pictures!

I have that pattern tucked away waiting to be done. Thanks for the tip about doing the tail.
