Default hexagon size ????

I really don't no what I would do without this group......So I am working on a hexagon t-shirt rag quilt. And I am trying to get measurements so my husband can cut me a template at work from plexaglass. I need measurements for a 12" or 12 1/2" hexagon + 1/4 seam allowance...How do I figure out the measurements....When I did it on paper it didn't work....I need help...Thanks again

Lucky you that he can do this for you. I have some rulers that I use. You could try drawing it out on graph paper.

Here's a link to a hexi calculator... just enter the size you want the height (or diagonal if setting on point) and it will give you the size of the sides you will need. http://www.had2know.com/academics/he...alculator.html

Drew this up in EQ7. Is this what you are looking for? It measures 12" across from point to point with each side being 6", ( I'm assuming you didn't mean sides of 12"). If you need it to be 12" from side to side the whole hex will need to be enlarged a bit more. PM me if you need for a larger one.

great job Gay, but it doesn't appear to have the 1/4 in seam included. But that would be easily added.

also if using t-shirts, get some light weight iron on fusible interfacing before cutting down to hexagons. good luck.

Gay has it,perfectly, correct. Hexies are usually sized by one side. The size from point directly across to another point (half hexie) is always twice the size of one side. If you want one cut including seams just take themine drawn out,in graph paper and then use a ruler to add whatever seam allowance you want. I've never done a t-shirt quilt so don't know if the seams stay the same 1/4" or not. Just be sure to add stabilizer, before you cut, not after. Can't wait to see a picture!!!

Sandy in Mooresville, NC - actually now in York, PA with family, anxiously waiting for,AQS Lancaster to stsrt on Wednesday👏👏👏
