I made a quilt for my DDIL, sent it out to be longarm quilted, it came back and I loved it. But the lady took a long time to get it back to me. I know why now. She is probably the only longarm quilter in the area. That was the first time I had sent something out. So I made quilts for my DGD's, used someone different. The first one came back....and I am not happy with the quilting. At least, not the amount of quilting. In a 12 inch square there are three squiggled lines. This is for a little 10 year old who isn't going to just lay it on the bed, she'll use it.....
Question, do you think I should quilt around the large square then, around all the background white fabric, or all the squares....help, please...

Wow! I can see why you were disappointed :( Hope she didn't charge you much to do it. I don't think you should have to "redo" what should have been done. I would contact her and tell her how you feel and ask that she make it right...either with more quilting or reimburse you some money.

who furnished the batt? that's probably "enough" quilting, granted it doesn't have much eye appeal, did you discuss a design or density of quilting or just leave it all up to her?
BTW if you have to send it out, we have several quilters here on the board, Jackiemoe did 2 for me, I left it all up to her and she did a perfect job of picking the panto for me and she was quick and priced reasonably.

Your quilt is beautiful and I love the colors! I can say that this time the quilting did not make the quilt!

I can see why you are disappointed... I'm not sure what I would do with it. Maybe stitch in the ditch if you don't feel comfortable free motioning it.

I don't think I would use that person again :(

I am really afraid it would look funny to just add more quilting to it. I would also contact the quilter, depending on what the agreement was that you made. If you left it up to her you may be stuck, but she should know that you are disatisfied. That is only fair for both of you. I longarm my quilts and I think I would put a motif in the middle of each block and some type of freemotion meander in the background and sashing. The problem is that it would require taking out the thread that she put in. Many people would not be willing to do this, but if it were my quilt I would. It is just such a beautiful quilt I think it would be worth the work. Just my opinion and I know some others will disagree.

I think you should at least contact her and let her know you are not happy, even if nothing gets resolved.

Didn't you mention she has another quilt of yours ?

I would atleast outline the blocks. I am thinking like you, those long channels could cause problems on down the road if the quilt is "loved a lot" :D

it depends on the batting used, if the batting only needs to be quilted every 10"-12" it will be fine as it is, if the batting required closer quilting then it will need more. if the quilter furnished the batting she probably knew how much it required. just because it is for a child it does not have to be heavily quilted, lots of long-arm quilters only do 'heavy' quilting on show/heirloom quilts, regular utility quilts do not require alot of heavy quilting to keep them together as long as the distance recommended on the batting is followed.

Hate to say it, but that quilting just wouldn't sit well with me. Were you able to discuss your vision with her first or just left it to her?
