I machine quilt on a old straight stitch machine. If the feed dogs will drop and you have a free motion foot or quilting foot for stitch in the ditch, then you are fine to go! If you want a new machine then you have lots of choices. I like Kenmores. Same company makes Janome makes Kenmores. Check the top of the line Kenmore first. I think you will be very surprised at the quality and the low price.

Welcome from Ohio and as for ideas for a machine....best thing is to try them out and see what is comfortable for you price wise and sewing wise....I took a chance on a reworked machine from AllBrands....a White Style maker....my main concern was the needle threader and up and down position of my needle ...the machine has that and so much more...hope you find what you are looking for good luck....:-)

Welcome from New York. Check your local shops and try out the machines. The dealers can tell you all about the features each machine has. And of course all of the great tips here.
